Flight Safety Division - Overview

“Flight Safety Division is mainly responsible for surveillance & certification of Airlines operated within & out of Sri Lanka, Certification of Aviation Personnel & Aviation Training Organizations & Continuing Airworthiness & registration of Aircraft in Sri Lanka. Three sections dealing with these areas are respectively Flight Operations (OPS) Personnel Licensing Section (PEL) & Airworthiness Section (AW).

Division is headed by a Director who also undertakes initial certification tasks on Air Operators  as the Project manager holding the responsibility of completion of the project in a timely manner with acceptable level of compliance to safety matters. Division also assumes responsibility of conducting safety investigations & Follow up of Corrective action Plans submitted by operators.

Further Monitoring & provision of Safety Targets for Air operators, Aircraft maintenance organizations & Aviation Training Organizations is another area of responsibility under State Safety Program of Sri Lanka.

Corporation & coordination with regional corporative programs such as COSCAP-SA, SARI & ICAO on relevant subject areas are also done by the division with due responsibility”
