CAA-Sri Lanka published Implementing Standards relating to operation of  a remotely piloted aircraft, a control line model aircraft, a free flight model aircraft or a drone which are commonly referred to as pilotless aircraft.

Pursuant to Section 80 of the Civil Aviation Act No.14 of 2010, an aircraft capable of flying without a pilot shall not be operated within the territory of Sri Lanka except under the authority and in accordance with the terms and conditions of a special permit issued by Director General of Civil Aviation for that purpose and on payment of the prescribed fee.
