In line with the policies promoted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on Sustainability, Green Aviation, Energy Efficiency, and the reduction of Carbon Emissions, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) officially commissioned its Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System on 10 July 2026.

The Solar PV project was inaugurated at the invitation of Captain Daminda Rambukwella, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, under the patronage of the Hon. Anura Karunathilake, Minister of Ports, Civil Aviation and Energy. The ceremony was also attended by the Hon. Janith Ruwan Kodithuwakku, Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Mr. W. W. S. Mangala, Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation, along with distinguished guests.

Speaking at the ceremony, Captain Daminda Rambukwella, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, stated that CAASL remains firmly committed to implementing the principles of Sustainability,Green Aviation, Energy Efficiency, and Carbon Emission Reduction promoted by ICAO through practical and meaningful initiatives.

He further noted that the Solar PV system is expected to generate nearly 70% of the Authority's total electricity requirement through renewable energy, while surplus electricity generated by the system will be exported to the National Grid. This initiative will make a significant contribution to strengthening environmental sustainability while enhancing the country's energy security.

Captain Rambukwella further emphasized that the project represents another important milestone in Sri Lanka's journey towards Green Aviation, supporting the development of an environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, and sustainable aviation sector through the reduction of carbon emissions. He also reaffirmed CAASL's continued commitment to providing leadership in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and advancing sustainable aviation in Sri Lanka.

The commissioning of the Solar PV system reflects the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka's ongoing commitment to promoting Green Aviation, improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and contributing towards a more sustainable future for Sri Lanka's aviation industry.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා සිවිල් ගුවන්සේවා අධිකාරිය හරිත ගුවන්සේවාව (Green Aviation) කරා තවත් සුවිශේෂී පියවරක් තබයි.

ජාත්‍යන්තර සිවිල් ගුවන්සේවා සංවිධානය (International Civil Aviation Organization – ICAO) විසින් ප්‍රවර්ධනය කරනු ලබන තිරසාර සංවර්ධනය (Sustainability), හරිත ගුවන්සේවාව (Green Aviation), බලශක්ති කාර්යක්ෂමතාව (Energy Efficiency) සහ කාබන් විමෝචනය (Carbon Emissions) අවම කිරීමේ ප්‍රතිපත්තිවලට අනුගත වෙමින්, ශ්‍රී ලංකා සිවිල් ගුවන්සේවා අධිකාරිය විසින් ස්ථාපිත කරන ලද සූර්ය ප්‍රකාශ වෝල්ටීයතා (Solar Photovoltaic - PV) පද්ධතිය අද (2026 ජූලි 10) නිල වශයෙන් ජනතා අයිතියට පත් කෙරිණි.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා සිවිල් ගුවන්සේවා අධිකාරියේ අධ්‍යක්ෂ ජනරාල් සහ ප්‍රධාන විධායක නිලධාරී කපිතාන් දමින්ද රඹුක්වැල්ල මහතාගේ ආරාධනයෙන්, ගරු වරාය, සිවිල් ගුවන්සේවා හා බලශක්ති අමාත්‍ය අනුර කරුණාතිලක මැතිතුමාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය විවෘත කෙරිණි.

මෙම සමාරම්භක අවස්ථාවට ගරු වරාය හා සිවිල් ගුවන්සේවා නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය ජනිත රුවන් කොඩිතුවක්කු මැතිතුමා, වරාය හා සිවිල් ගුවන්සේවා අමාත්‍යාංශයේ ලේකම් ඩබ්ලිව්. ඩබ්ලිව්. එස්. මංගල මහතා ඇතුළු සම්භාවනීය ආරාධිත පිරිසක් සහභාගී වූහ.

මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය මඟින් ශ්‍රී ලංකා සිවිල් ගුවන්සේවා අධිකාරියේ සමස්ත විදුලි බල අවශ්‍යතාවයෙන් සියයට 70කට ආසන්න ප්‍රමාණයක් පුනර්ජනනීය බලශක්තියෙන් (Renewable Energy) සපුරා ගැනීමට හැකි වන අතර, අතිරික්ත විදුලි බලය (Surplus Electricity) ජාතික විදුලිබල පද්ධතිය (National Grid) වෙත එක් කිරීම තුළින් පාරිසරික තිරසාරභාවය තවදුරටත් ශක්තිමත් කිරීමට මෙන්ම රටේ බලශක්ති සුරක්ෂිතතාවයට ද වැදගත් දායකත්වයක් සපයයි.

මෙහිදී අදහස් දැක්වූ ශ්‍රී ලංකා සිවිල් ගුවන්සේවා අධිකාරියේ අධ්‍යක්ෂ ජනරාල් සහ ප්‍රධාන විධායක නිලධාරී කපිතාන් දමින්ද රඹුක්වැල්ල මහතා සඳහන් කළේ, ICAO විසින් ප්‍රවර්ධනය කරනු ලබන තිරසාර සංවර්ධනය සහ හරිත ගුවන්සේවාව යන සංකල්ප ප්‍රායෝගිකව ක්‍රියාවට නැංවීම සඳහා ශ්‍රී ලංකා සිවිල් ගුවන්සේවා අධිකාරිය අඛණ්ඩව කැපවී සිටින බවයි.

තවද, මෙම සූර්ය ප්‍රකාශ වෝල්ටීයතා (Solar PV) ව්‍යාපෘතිය මඟින් ආයතනයේ විදුලි බල අවශ්‍යතාවයෙන් සියයට 70කට ආසන්න ප්‍රමාණයක් පුනර්ජනනීය බලශක්තියෙන් සපුරා ගැනීමට හැකි වන අතර, අතිරික්ත විදුලි බලය ජාතික විදුලිබල පද්ධතිය වෙත එක් කිරීම මඟින් කාබන් විමෝචනය අවම කරමින් පරිසර හිතකාමී, බලශක්ති කාර්යක්ෂම සහ තිරසාර ගුවන්සේවා පද්ධතියක් ගොඩනැගීමට මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය සුවිශේෂී දායකත්වයක් ලබාදෙන බව ද ඔහු අවධාරණය කළේය.

මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ගුවන්සේවා ක්ෂේත්‍රය තුළ හරිත ගුවන්සේවාව ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීම, කාබන් විමෝචනය අවම කිරීම සහ එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ තිරසාර සංවර්ධන ඉලක්ක (Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs) සාක්ෂාත් කර ගැනීම සඳහා ශ්‍රී ලංකා සිවිල් ගුවන්සේවා අධිකාරිය දරන අඛණ්ඩ කැපවීම තවදුරටත් තහවුරු කරන සුවිශේෂී සන්ධිස්ථානයකි.
