It has come to the attention of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka that fake, fabricated, and misleading information is being circulated on several social media platforms through the unauthorized use of the Independent Television Network (ITN) news logo and visual identity.

Accordingly, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka strongly emphasizes that the said information is entirely false, misleading, and unauthorized. No such statement has been issued to any media institution or social media platform by the Director General of Civil Aviation & Chief Executive Officer.

In relation to this serious and unlawful situation, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka has taken the following actions:

  • The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka has officially communicated with the Independent Television Network (ITN) regarding the unauthorized use and misuse of the ITN news logo and identity in the dissemination of this fake news. The Independent Television Network has confirmed that it has no connection whatsoever with the circulation of the said false information. Furthermore, the Independent Television Network has already issued an official notice stating that the relevant news item is “FAKE NEWS”.
  • The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka is in the process of initiating the necessary legal action against the individuals and/or parties responsible for creating, publishing, and disseminating these fake and fabricated news reports through social media platforms.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka strongly urges the public, media institutions, and social media users to act responsibly and with due caution when sharing information relating to civil aviation matters, and to verify such information through officially issued media statements and the official communication channels of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka remains continuously committed to safeguarding public confidence, institutional dignity, and the credibility of state institutions, and will take firm action against the dissemination of false information and misinformation.
