What is Deregistration of aircraft?

- When the conditions under which the registration was issued have changed; or
- Upon a request made by the owner or, in the case of a leased aircraft, by the operator; or
- When any one or more of the following conditions take place:
- The aircraft is destroyed.
- The aircraft is permanently withdrawn from use.
- The Certificate of Registration was obtained through misrepresentation or fraudulent documentation.
- The aircraft is missing and the search has been officially terminated.
- The owner or operator is deceased.
- The aircraft has been missing for 60 days or more.
Is It Necessary to Obtain a Certificate of Airworthiness for an Aircraft?
Yes. It is mandatory for all aircraft to hold a valid Certificate of Airworthiness issued by the CAASL before commencing any operations. This certificate confirms that the aircraft meets all safety and regulatory standards required for safe operation
What are the requirements for the issuance of Certificate of Airworthiness?
To obtain a Certificate of Airworthiness for an aircraft in Sri Lanka, the following documents must be submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL):
- Letter of request from the owner or operator
- Duly completed application form
- Receipt of application fee payment
- Type certificate of the aircraft
- Maintenance history of the aircraft
