The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka is pleased to announce the successful completion of a Regulatory Oversight Activity conducted at the Instrument Flight Procedure Design (IFPD) Service Unit of Sri Lanka from 28 - 30 April 2026.
This important initiative was carried out with the expert support of Dr. Mian Fazalur Rehman, Air Navigation Services Specialist (PANS-OPS), Air Traffic Control Officer, and Air Navigation Services Regulator of the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan. His deployment was facilitated under the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Capacity Development and Implementation Bureau (CDI) project.
The primary objective of the oversight activity was to further strengthen the regulatory framework governing the Instrument Flight Procedure Design services in Sri Lanka, while enhancing the effectiveness and compliance of IFPD services. The engagement provided valuable insights into current practices and identified key areas for improvement aligned with international standards and recommended practices.
Following a comprehensive review, a series of targeted recommendations were presented to support the continued advancement of IFPD services in Sri Lanka. These recommendations are expected to contribute significantly to enhancing operational safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance within the national aviation system.

Under the leadership of Capt. Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation & Chief Executive Officer (DGCA & CEO), the HR Team of CAASL successfully launched a comprehensive awareness program for staff. The training for the first batch commenced on 5th May 2026.
This initiative is conducted in collaboration with the Skills Development Fund Ltd (SDFL) and was honored by the presence of Capt. Daminda Rambukwella along with the participation of CAASL staff members.

The event was held alongside the pinning ceremony for member students of Singamitta Girls' College, Kiridiwela.

With the participation of 150 students from the Sangamith Aviation Club and invited schools, attendees had a unique opportunity to explore diverse career pathways within the aviation industry. The program highlighted the many opportunities shaping the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP).
Students were guided by resource persons from the Civil Aviation Authority, SriLankan Airlines Limited, and SriLankan Aviation College, who shared valuable insights and expertise.
Under the leadership of the Ministry of Ports & Civil Aviation and with approval from the Ministry of Education, CAASL remains committed to organizing initiatives that broaden aviation knowledge among students. This program aimed to inspire young individuals to explore the exciting world of aviation and envision themselves in dynamic, high-impact careers across the sector, with a special focus on empowering women in aviation in Sri Lanka.
This initiative is part of the Next Generation Aviation Professionals Sri Lanka (NGAP-SL) program, implemented by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka under the guidance of Capt. Daminda Rambukwella, DGCA & CEO, with the full support and direction of the Ministry of Ports & Civil Aviation.

The Aeromedical Services (AMS) of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) successfully conducted a professional development session on psychology, further strengthening its commitment to excellence in aviation medicine and regulatory standards.
This session forms part of a series of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programmes designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and professional capabilities of Aviation Medical Examiners. The initiative specifically aims to support examiners in appropriately identifying Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) licence holders who may exhibit psychological instability, and to ensure timely referral to qualified psychologists for appropriate management and support.
The session was facilitated by Ms. Anita Sharma, a Clinical and Health Psychologist with extensive experience in providing mental and emotional health support across both local and international institutions. Her expertise provided valuable insights into the psychological dimensions relevant to aviation safety and medical assessments.
The programme was conducted with the participation and guidance of Capt. Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer (DGCA & CEO), together with Dr. Bimal Dias, Senior Civil Aviation Inspector (Aviation Medicine), and the Aeromedical Services team.
