To minimize the lack of qualified personnel for air ticketing the CAA took steps to commence a Ticketing course to create qualified personnel for the travel industry. As result of this initiative the CAA started a Ticketing Course in 2009 and named it as “Airline Reservations & Fares Calculation Course”. Training suitable personnel is one of the functions of the Authority and in this respect the CAA made every possible effort to create talented ticketing officers through this course. The course conducted not with the intention of making a profit making but to produce good quality outputs for the useful employment of the industry. The number of participants per batch is limited to 20 students in order to ensure individual attention. All students are interviewed before enrollment. So far 11 such batches have been concluded.
The course is a Foundation Level course and students are given a basic knowledge about Airline Geography and Fare Construction.
The Course content has been developed to cater to the needs of the industry by a professional team. The following areas are included in the main syllabus concerned.
- Introduction to Geography and the Passenger Air Tariff
- Fare selection.
- Special fare construction
- Collection of Taxes, Fees, Surcharges and Collection of penalty fees
- Children and infants’ ticketing and fare construction
- Simulation on ticketing entries and many more
Value Added Presentations
In order to increase the knowledge of the students of the course and there are number of valued added presentations scheduled for each batch. Following are few subjects covered in this presentations.
- Grooming and Interview Techniques
- Air Services Negotiations and Agreements
- Global Distribution Systems
- Meeting Preparation and Business Communication
- Presentation Skills
An airport familiarization visit is conducted for each batch with a view of providing practical experience about the international airport formalities. Students are given an opportunity to board an aircraft parked to experience first-hand interiors of an aircraft.
Course duration is 80 hours and conducted on 10 Saturdays from 0900hrs to 1700hrs with sufficient breaks to enable the students to refresh themselves.. Morning and evening tea is provided is also provided.
Final Examination is held to evaluate students and there are two subjects. To obtain the certificate, students are required to pass both papers. Pass mark for each subject is 50%. Only two attempts are available to complete the examination and students can re-sit only for referred subjects at the second attempt. Successful candidates will be awarded a certificate that will be accepted worldwide as it is issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka.
All successful candidates are awarded with a certificate signed by the Director General of Civil Aviation and the certificate has wide acceptance and recognition locally and internationally.
Twice a year
Course is advertised on weekend English newspaper one month prior to the date of commencement.
Applicants must have at least credit passes for English and Mathematics at GCE (O/L) Examination and should have good English speaking and understanding ability.
An interview will be held to select the candidates and highest 20 scorers will be selected for the batch.
Current course fee is Rs. 20,000/ - (+VAT) and Rs. 400/- is charged as a nonrefundable registration fee.
